Motivation

I've learned that I especially enjoy programming for projects that allow me to see the fruits of my labor. Whether that be seeing my coworkers' life getting easier or seeing the product that my team and I worked on getting released, I'm more motivated to work when I can clearly see progress happening. Much like carpentry, the next step builds on the previous one, and that's a solid way to build something. I like working on projects that are down to earth, close to the metal or simply more "real".

Experience

I worked 4 years at Morgan Stanley to build a UI automation test framework, tailored made to alleviate the need of manual testing for the QA team. Basically, building this from an idea in the form of a few dozen lines code snippet that my manager had written, iterating designs until something stuck, slowly shaping it into a useful tool. I learned how to really debug, digging into Python libraries hell to find which quirk made our life miserable. Making a testing framework hammered-in the importance of writing tests alongside the project while it grows. I enjoyed making a tool that my coworkers and I could use to make our own jobs easier.
